Dear reader, If you value answers to your questions, this book is not for you。 You learn more about VFD than ever but there are too many mysteries to solve。 P。S。 The greater good is subjective。 Fighting fire with fire can get you burned。 All parents have secrets, though perhaps not as many as the parents in VFD。 The pacing seemed slower than the other books in the series。

The Slippery Slope was the icy chill after the fiery frenzy of the Carnivorous Carnival。 I found this an interesting book that mostly furthered the main, underlying plot points rather than provide as much 'adventure' as the previous books in the series。 Still fun to further the character depth with the Baudelaires and secondary, supporting characters。 The Slippery Slope was the icy chill after the fiery frenzy of the Carnivorous Carnival。 I found this an interesting book that mostly furthered the main, underlying plot points rather than provide as much 'adventure' as the previous books in the series。 Still fun to further the character depth with the Baudelaires and secondary, supporting characters。 。。。more

4。25 The particular use of language in this series creates such excellent humor。 It was so prominent in this book。 All the puns and quasi-philosophical remarks made by the narrator。 And Sunny’s speech is just my favorite。 And the reveals!

This book is extremely monumental to the series, and it simultaneously answers many questions the Baudelaire's have, while also presenting new topics that carry the rest of the series。 "The Slippery Slope" carries a lot of weight on it's shoulders, and it executes what it needs to very well。 I did not enjoy "The Carnivorous Carnival," so I'm very glad that this book picked up the slack。 It's far from being the most perfect book in the world, but it still is wonderful and draws you in。I want to s This book is extremely monumental to the series, and it simultaneously answers many questions the Baudelaire's have, while also presenting new topics that carry the rest of the series。 "The Slippery Slope" carries a lot of weight on it's shoulders, and it executes what it needs to very well。 I did not enjoy "The Carnivorous Carnival," so I'm very glad that this book picked up the slack。 It's far from being the most perfect book in the world, but it still is wonderful and draws you in。I want to start out by talking more about something that I addressed in my review of "The Carnivorous Carnival," and that is how the Baudelaire's start to find themselves questioning where their morals lay。 It's interesting to see them reflect on their actions and feel torn over doing what is morally right and doing what will help them survive。 Looking back on the previous book, the orphans had to work with Count Olaf to help set fire to the Caligari Carnival。 They didn't do it because they had a malicious intent, but they had to blend in with the rest of the carnies in order to get out safely。 I enjoy that Snicket added these internal struggles to the Baudelaire's character。 It makes them much more well-rounded, thought-through, and realistic。 He could have very easily not written that in, but it would have made the Baudelaire's seem flat and rather ruthless。 The book felt much more balanced thanks to the addition of this man vs self dynamic。Another aspect that I particularly enjoyed in this story is the different layers of the plot。 I enjoyed the dual timeline that was split between and Sunny and Violet/Klaus。 I enjoy when different plot lines weave together and I like seeing how they connect together at the end。 The two groups went through different plots and learned new, important information, and neither side's plot was more important than the other。 That part of the book was incredibly strong, in my opinion。The one thing that I am not the biggest fan of is the way the information was just dumped on the reader。 There is quite a lot of information that is presented throughout the book, with some being presented in a stronger way than others。 This book seems to have the bulk of the information presented, and there are moments where it's just dumped on us through other characters。 It was kind of annoying and my reading slowed down at that point because it was too much for me to take in。 I wish all the new information would have been distributed a bit more evenly throughout the book。 However, I do understand that Snicket did it as well as he could, and he took on a big task with this book, so I'm a little more lenient to let this go。This is a very quick-paced and exciting addition to the series, and I enjoy it a lot! The book starts with a bang and ends with one too, and the whole middle is information, excitement, and wonder。 The writing is very well done in this book, and it provides information while raising even more questions。 i would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who's interested in it! 。。。more

This book was the hardest to get through。 The pacing just felt a little off, and the story had too much of a lull between the interesting bits。 It definitely didn’t help that I came down with a cold while reading this book, but I believe the timing of the book to be lacking regardless。 Some really interesting plot points came to fruition in this book, and others were introduced, but they could hardly save this book from my lowest rating in the series thus far。

Adam Clark

Definitely different then I thought。 Answer some questions but then lets you think what would be the answers。 As I am now getting closer to the end of the series makes me think how is he going to end the series and that makes me even more curious on the rest of the series。

I know there’s a very big character reveal in this one, and picks up on a big cliffhanger from the last book but it really feels like filler to me。 It’s not the most exciting, but A LOT of exposition that reveals some super important details。 A good story, mostly for all the reveals。

Jecel Cortes

The book is really really good。 At the being of the series the books are just they same of what happens but with drama。 But as you keep reading the book gets really good and then you would what to read the next chapter。 sure the chapters are long but it wrthent it。

LOVED this one。 The VFD mystery unraveling is so enticing for me, and seeing the Baudelaires evolve is great。

This series is starting to pick up, and things actually feel like they're moving forward now, becoming less formulaic and very obviously heading towards a conclusion。Sunny is growing up, and with that come more and more little jokes with her "babble" that the kids probably wouldn't get, but should ring a bell with most adults, such as "matahari" when she's talking about spying on someone, and an instance of "rosebud" that made the former film-student in me chuckle in appreciation。 This series is starting to pick up, and things actually feel like they're moving forward now, becoming less formulaic and very obviously heading towards a conclusion。Sunny is growing up, and with that come more and more little jokes with her "babble" that the kids probably wouldn't get, but should ring a bell with most adults, such as "matahari" when she's talking about spying on someone, and an instance of "rosebud" that made the former film-student in me chuckle in appreciation。 。。。more

I swear I kept reading the Baudelaire story only for the ending。 Olaf has kidnapped Sunny and we discover that her real skill is not her teeth but cooking。 New characters arrive and we too will never know anything, too bad because they seemed interesting but 。。。 we don't know how they end up, we don't know who they are, we don't know their relationship with Olaf。 The third brother Quagmire is alive, he could start a relationship with Violet but he too disappears and is forgotten by the author。The plot is boring, there are no answers and the characters are added but not explained。 。。。more

This story well and truly throws out the status quo of the previous novels。 It’s refreshing and long overdue。 I loved all the information we got about V。F。D。 It’s a lot more than I remembered getting。 Of course, there are always more questions that could be answered。 In my audiobook version, there is a (kinda annoying) song that is scattered throughout the chapters but plays in full at the end which was an interesting decision。

The Baudelaires are growing up as the series goes on, but the character who shows that the most is Sunny。 She is not a baby anymore, and she makes sure everyone knows that。 Violet and Klaus are questioning more and more the decisions they make, wondering whether they are closer to being villains than they think。 As the story progressess, the misteries increase, yet the answers to them are so difficult to reach。So many questions and only 3 books left!
